What are risks and side effects of Sculptra?
Sculptra has potential risks and side effects, although they are generally considered to be rare and temporary. Some possible risks and side effects include:
Most commonly after a Sculptra treatment you will develop mild swelling, redness and a little pain at the site of injection. Bruising can occur and a haematoma can last a full 2 weeks to fully disappear so we always explain the treatment should be two weeks prior to any special event. Like any treatment there are risks of infection, however, this is rare and your treatment will be performed by a trained registered nurse minimising those risks. Extremely rare, but important to note is the formation of a small bump/nodule under the skin. While uncommon if you do get one they may take some time to go sway. This is where the 5 5 5 rule is paramount in aftercare.
What is the 5 5 5 rule after Sculptra?
After getting Sculptra injections, it’s recommended to follow this simple rule to maximise the results:
Massage for 5 minutes: Gently massage the treated areas for about 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for the first 5 days after your treatment. This helps distribute the product evenly and ensures optimal collagen stimulation.
Avoid excessive pressure: While massaging is essential, make sure not to apply excessive pressure or rub the injection sites too hard. Be gentle and let your hands do the work without overdoing it.
Keep moving: It’s important to keep the treated areas mobile by regularly performing facial movements like smiling, frowning, and talking. This helps prevent the formation of lumps or nodules and ensures a natural-looking result.
The 5-5-5 rule is a handy way to remember how to care for your skin after Sculptra injections. But remember, everyone’s experience may differ, so it’s always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized guidance and any specific aftercare instructions.
Now you’re armed with this little skincare secret, time to sit back, relax, and let the collagen-boosting magic of Sculptra work its wonders!

What happens when Sculptra wears off?
Over time Sculptra will start to be metabolised by the body and collagen will start to decline again and the treated area will return to its original appearance. The effects and longevity of the treatment can all be impacted by factors such as age, how many treatments you initially had and lifestyle. We recommend a yearly touch up to maintain your desired results.
Does Sculptra lift the face?
Sculptra stimulates the production of collagen and regenerates tissue in areas with significant volume loss. As collagen production increases you will notice an improvement of fine lines, wrinkles and areas of hollowing.
While Sculptra does give you a subtle lifting effect by restoring the lost volume and improving the quality of your skin. It is not going to give you the same result as a surgical procedure. Its main job is it volumise, contour and repair damaged tissue rather than significantly lifting.
